Description

Classic Southern Stewed Potatoes: Simple, creamy, and flavorful.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place potatoes and onion in a large pot.
  2. Cover with water and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Drain water from pot.
  5. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper to the potatoes.
  6. Stir well and simmer over low heat until the sauce thickens, about 10-15 minutes.
  7. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use half-and-half or heavy cream instead of milk.
  • Add cooked bacon or ham for extra flavor.
  • Adjust salt and pepper to your taste.
