Ingredients

- 5 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Place potatoes and onion in a large pot.
- Cover with water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain water from pot.
- Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper to the potatoes.
- Stir well and simmer over low heat until the sauce thickens, about 10-15 minutes.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use half-and-half or heavy cream instead of milk.
- Add cooked bacon or ham for extra flavor.
- Adjust salt and pepper to your taste.
